The Houston Astros traded five players yesterday to acquire Orioles’ shortstop Miguel Tejada.
Tejada is reported to have wanted a change of scenery for a long time. So obviously, he couldn’t be happier at this point. Yesterday, he said this:
‘‘I’m very happy, very happy. It’s the biggest gift Santa Claus will give me.”
The Astros are in question for this move, as they traded Luke Scott, pitchers Matt Albers, Troy Patton and Dennis Sarfate, and third baseman Michael Costanzo for Tejada. Many feel that they have put their pitching future in jeopardy.
Captain’s Take: Whenever you trade five players for one player, it’s always a risk. What if that one player gets injured, or even worse, appears in the Mitchell Report?
Houston may have a problem.
