Major League Drugball

September 10, 2007

Major League Baseball has requested three meetings with three different players for usage of illegal performance enhancement drugs.

Jay Gibbons (Baltimore Orioles) and Troy Glaus (Toronto Blue Jays) have been reported to have received steroid shipments.

Rick Ankiel (St. Louis Cardinals), the miracle home-run hitting pitcher-turned outfielder, is reported to have received shipments of hGH.

Captain’s Take

Jay Gibbons- With a career average of .260, 121 HR’s, and 405 RBI’s in seven seasons, I hope he’s not taking steroids. If it turns out he is, those numbers are sad.

Troy Glaus- Glaus is a bit of a different story. He is a respected player league-wide, and would be a huge disappointment to many if it turns out he is connected to steroids. Glaus jumped from 29 home runs in 1999 to 47 home runs in 2000.

Rick Ankiel- The guy is a pitcher, throws a few wild balls, gets sent down to the minors, comes back up, and now has a slugging percentage comparable to A-Rod. Could it be any more obvious?
