Missing Marbury

New York Knicks point guard Stephon Marbury mysteriously missed the morning shootaround today in Phoenix. According to reports, he had a dispute with head coach Isiah Thomas and took a plane home. As of now, no one’s really talking about what exactly happened between them on either side.

The Knicks play the Phoenix Suns tonight and will be in Los Angeles to play the Clippers tomorrow. Right now, Marbury says he won’t be there tomorrow either.

Isiah Thomas has been quoted in saying that he’s trying to keep the situation “in-house.”

Pretty hard to do when Marbury is 2138.26 miles (distance from Phoenix to New York) away from “home” (The Knicks’ bench).

The Italian Stallion (sort of)

Stephon Marbury of the New York Knicks announced yesterday that when the final two years of his contract are up, he’s going to leave the NBA to play basketball in Italy.

Anticipating people would think Marbury was just talking out of his you know what, Marbury stated “I’m not just thinking of doing it, I’m going to do it.”

Marbury went on to claim that his wife loves Italy and compared himself to David Beckham.

“I’m looking at how David Beckham is getting love for coming here. He’s 32. I’ll be 32 at the end of my Knicks’ contract. Imagine if someone told him not to follow his heart to play soccer in the U.S.”

I don’t know if Marbury realizes it, but in Beckham’s new deal with the Galaxy, he has the potential to earn as much as $250 million over the next five years with salary and jersey sales. This is aside from the money he can make out side of soccer (commercials, interviews, etc.).

My point is, I’m sure Beckham’s heart had something to do with the move, but the amount of money he can make is unfathomable.

Marbury won’t get anywhere close to the same amount of money, so I hope for his sake he has a really big heart.
