MLB Strikes Deal With Stubhub Creating "Legal Scalping"

August 14, 2007

Stubhub, which is an online ticket selling unit under the Ebay company, has signed a deal with the MLB to become the MLB’s official ticket-reselling hub.

How It Works

When someone buys a ticket on Stubhub, sellers are charged 10 % commission and buyers pay a fee 15 % above the asking price.

Example: $100 ticket to see an MLB team
buyer pays: $115
seller gets: $90
MLB/Stubhub split: $25

All in all, the deal is intended to further legitimize the business of selling and reselling sports and entertainment tickets.

Or in other words,

All in all, the deal is intended to further legitmize the business of ticket scalping on the internet.
