“I still haven’t watched the tape. All itwill do is make me mad again. I had a
migraine last night when I went home.”
Monday night’s game against the Baltimore Orioles
The Play
Crawford hit a bases loaded grounder to Orioles shortstop Miguel Tejada in the third inning of Monday Night’s game. Crawford was called out, but replays show Tejada’s throw clearly pulled first baseman Kevin Millar off the bag.
The Reaction
Crawford, after pumping his fist like he got a hit, soon realized the bad news. He turned in the umpire’s direction and threw his helmet down with both hands. He was then ejected from the game. First base coach George Hendrick tried to restrain Crawford, but Crawford ended up on Hendrick’s back. Finally, Crawford left the premises.
The League
For his actions in Monday’s game, Crawford was slapped with a two-game suspension and a fine of an undisclosed amount. Crawford has appealed the suspension.
The Awful Truth
Carl Crawford plays for the Devil Rays, so all of his games are virtually meaningless. They will miss the playoffs with or without him as they do every year.
So don’t fret, Carl. Take it as a two day vacation.
