The NBA’s Probable Death

August 21, 2007

Criminal referee Tim Donaghy has said that the he will cooperate with federal officials by naming at least 20 other referees in the NBA union that were involved in such activities as he was.

Originally, commissioner David Stern had called Donaghy a “rogue, isolated, criminal.” By Donaghy naming 20 others, fans will lose trust for both Stern and the entire NBA.

Just think about it.

This year when your favorite NBA team is playing a division rival and it just so happens that your favorite team is committing more fouls, the first thing anyone is going to think is– why am I watching this? This game is probably fixed.

Regards, NBA. It was a good run.

GUILTY

Tim Donaghy appeared in a New York federal courtroom today to plead guilty of two felonies connected to illegal bets on league games.

The former NBA referee faces a maximum 25-year prison sentence.

Evidence shows that Donaghy began betting on games about four years ago.

This past season, Donaghy helped the Knicks beat the Heat, allowing the Knicks to shoot 30 more free throws.

Now, without Donaghy in the league, the Knicks are expected to go 0-82.

FBI Investigation on NBA Referee

July 20, 2007

FBI agents are preparing to arrest 13-year NBA veteran referee Tim Donaghy.

The Charge
The referee allegedly bet on games– including those he officiated — and in turn, made calls to affect point spreads.

The amount of games that this occurred in is rumored to be in the “double digits,” says the New York Post.

FACT: This has the makings of one of the if not the worst scandal in professional sports history.

Think steroids in baseball is bad? You ain’t seen nothin’ yet.
