Cal Ripken and Tony Gwynn were elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame yesterday in Cooperstown, NY.
Commissioner Bud Selig came for the induction, meaning he wasn’t with Barroid Bonds across the country, trying to steal the home run record from another great hall of famer, “Hammerin’” Hank Aaron.
Along with Bud Selig, 74,999 others were in attendance for the event, more fans than the Tampa Bay Devil Rays get for 4 home games.
Both Ripken and Gwynn are models for how great the game of baseball can be and really how bad it’s become today. Ripken and Gwynn both spent their entire careers with the same team, never selling out for extra bucks. They never took steroids and always played hard. And in turn, the statistics showed.
At the end of his induction speech, Ripken said “You all may not receive the accolades that I have throughout my career, but I would like to take the time to salute all of you for showing up, working hard, and making the world a better place.”
No, we salute you, Cal.
