The End of the Road

Carolina Panthers quarterback Vinny Testaverde has announced that after this Sunday’s game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he will finally retire from professional football.

Career Numbers
46,233 Passing Yards, 275 Passing Touchdowns, 199.3 Passing Yards/Game, QB Rating: 75.0 (in 232 games played)

Career Accomplishments

  • Two-time Pro Bowl selection [1996, 1998]
  • 6th all-time in attempts
  • 6th all-time in completions
  • 6th all-time in passing yards
  • 8th all-time in passing touchdowns
  • Tampa Bay Franchise Record for Passing Yards [14,820]
  • Baltimore Franchise Record for Passing Yards [7,148]
  • Record for most consecutive seasons with a TD [21]

Testaverde was able to last in the NFL for 21 years, which included playing for 6 different teams and 9 different head coaches. Unfortunately Vinny Testaverde, while a great quarterback, he never had the supporting cast to allow him to win a Super Bowl Championship.

On retiring from the game, Testaverde said this:
“I feel fortunate to have been able to play for 21 years in the NFL. I have lived a dream and have gotten to leave the game on my own terms.”

Carolina Savior: Vinny Testaverde

October 11, 2007

So let me get this straight. The Carolina Panthers’ starting quarterback, Jake Delhomme, goes down for the season. Their backup, David Carr, suffered a back injury in last game.

So at 3-2, with playoff hopes still very strong, who do the Carolina Panthers turn to to save the season?

The Panthers visit the Arizona Cardinals this Sunday at 4PM.

Vinny hopes it’s a quick game, as he has 8PM dominoes at the center.

Vinny and the Pats, Take Two

Vinny Testaverde has re-signed with the New England Patriots and will return for his 21st consecutive NFL Season.

Ol’ man Vinny is 43.

On November 13th, Vinny turns 44.

Most would agree that Vinny’s best years and legacy were with the New York Jets. It was during these years that he made the Pro Bowl twice and went to the playoffs three times.

Now he’s with the Jets extreme rival, the New England Patriots, betraying his former fans for hopes of attaining a Super Bowl Ring.

And what use is Vinny to the Patriots’ organization?

Last year he threw one touchdown pass.

Hey, at least he doesn’t like dogfighting.
