Word of Mouth: China

July 19, 2007
“No matter how lofty public welfare activities are, they can’t be
allowed to take first place in a player’s life. No matter
how sweet personal life is, it can’t be compared to the
exultation of capturing glory for one’s nation.”

-China, well the China Sports Daily Newspaper,
on Yao being late to Chinese training camp after
a grueling NBA Season and attending his wedding

Poor Yao. The greatest and most famous athlete in the history of China and that’s the treatment he receives for being a little late. If Allen Iverson showed up late for U.S. training camp, you know what they would say to him?

“Glad you could make it.”
